Director's Statement:
This short film is derived from a mixture of stories of friend’s and my love life. I want to tell a story in its most sincere form, one that forces the viewer to think about what love means in this modern society. The line between making and breaking is but a thin one. Hence the title, BREAK.
BREAK stands for everyone’s boiling point. The moment of the decision between fight or flight. The film explores the dark side of love in the 20th century where sex and violence are suppressed and how people deal with these temptations in their social circle.
Where bleakness and betrayal are abound and a war brews between the protagonist’s psyche and the outer world. The story is deconstructed to lead the viewer to discovery by looking at the protagonist’s plight in through skewed storytelling, revealing its crux that life is not just about one man.
I know that experiencing love is not enough to tell a story about it. I found myself asking questions while conducting research for the film. Do fairy tales exist? Must all good things come to an end? Do things change as the world moves along with time? Most people use the breakup as an excuse for themselves to tear away from reality. A leopard can’t change its spots. We will never be content, and our beliefs will always be shaken by temptation.
