Festival. It’s a word we take very seriously, in our light-hearted way.
Bendigo Writers Festival is still young, but we’ve learned fast. We know that a festival can be a meeting place that invites us all to enjoy the best of what makes us human. We’ve discovered that our city is not too big, not too small, but just about the perfect size for such a festival. And we’ve caught on to the fact there’s a strong and growing need for the conviviality that a festival can create.
BWF2014 will be busy, sometimes noisy, often surprising, always entertaining, because that’s the kind of people who are coming.
They write big fat novels, or slim volumes of verse. They contemplate the past, or look to the future. They are inspired by a thought or by a tree, puzzled, perplexed, bemused and adamant.
Check them out; some you’ll know well, their magnificent careers a cause for celebration. Others are so new the ink is hardly dry. When they come to Bendigo to share in our three-day word party, we are ready to show them a very good time. We hope you’ll be there too.
