Toby Haynes is a graduate of the National Film and Television School and has amassed an enviable credit list over his career, gathering the biggest names from British drama on his reel.
Some of the outstanding shows Toby has directed include: Five Days starring David Morrissey and Suranne Jones, as well as Being Human starring Russell Tovey. He directed the season finale of Doctor Who starring Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, which won the 2011 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.
He concluded the second series of Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the highly lauded ‘The Reichenbach Fall’ and opened series 3 of Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh, ‘An Event in Autumn’. This episode attained the highest viewing figures for the entire series. The series was also the recipient of six BAFTAs.
Toby has recently enjoyed huge success directing the BBC1 drama Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, adapted from Susana Clarke’s best selling novel. Nominated for four BAFTA Crafts in 2016, the show was awarded two in the categories for Production Design and Visual Effects. The critically acclaimed drama also received a number of RTS awards, including Best Director for Toby.
He has just completed the second episode of Black Mirror’s highly anticipated upcoming fourth series for Netflix.
