Director of some of the most loved Sri Lankan commercials of recent times, Ilango Ramanathan is renowned in the close-knit industry for his signature treatment of scripts and meticulous direction. Sri Lankan by birth, educated in India, he graduated from NIT as a Bachelor of Engineering Electronics & Communications in year 2002 and earned his credentials as a pilot at the Asian Aviation School. An engineer by profession who has taken the road less traveled in pursuit of his dream of becoming a filmmaker, Ilango graduated from the Rockport College – USA as a cinematographer in year 2006. Experimenting his skill at cinematography he has created several short films during his tenure at the College and after. Representing Sri Lanka at AFA 2006 he won the honor of being screened at the Pusan Film Festival 2006. His participation in the Berlinale Talent Campus 2007 was yet another milestone in his journey. Year 2009 marked a turning point in his career as a director as he stepped into the sensational realm of Sri Lankan Advertising as a commercial director. His work was duly commended at the RCCA 2009 where he was presented the Gold Award for Best Cinematography in the TV category as well as Silver Award and Bronze Awards for Best Direction with numerous other nominations. Ilango is currently working on his feature film.
