RACHEL HARMS began directing after enjoying a successful career as a choreographer and dancer with her own dance company in New York City. Her work in film has spanned a wide range, from commercials to music videos to films for children. She is a four time Emmy Award recipient for original short films she created for Sesame Street. HARMS began her professional career after graduating with honors in dance from New York University. Within a year she decided to form her own troupe. As artistic director, dancer, and choreographer for the Rachel Harms Dance Company she toured nationally, receiving numerous awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, The New York State Council on the Arts, and many foundations. Her works were commissioned and performed by ballet and modern dance companies across the United States. Fueled by her desire to expand her artistic voice, HARMS began experimenting with short films. Determined to direct, she moved to Los Angeles with a reel of her work. Shortly after arriving in L.A. she met renowned music video and commercial director Peter Nydrle who signed her to his company and launched her career in film. As a commercial director HARMS has completed acclaimed campaigns for such clients as Southwest Airlines, ExxonMobil, America West Airlines, USWest, Quaker Oats, Johnson & Johnson, and Tide, among many others. Harms is in demand internationally for her deft hand as a storyteller, her ability to capture believable vignettes and dialogue work in many languages, and for her extraordinary ability directing kids. HARMS has residences in both Los Angeles and New York City. She is an avid figure skating fan, animal lover, and a travel enthusiast.
