Pierre Rouger is a member of IATSE Local 600 in the US and Local 669 in Canada. He holds both a US and an European passports, and is a Permanent resident in Canada with a CAVCO number.Born in France and raised in Western Africa, cinematographer Pierre Rouger is a very unique talent. His international background and creative visuals have led him to create some of the most visually powerful music videos and commercials in the past two decades. After a 20 year hiatus to care for his family he started shooting movies again.Pierre knew he wanted to become a cinematographer in 1980 when he saw Scorsese’s RAGING BULL and was blown away by Michael Chapman’s groundbreaking, iconic cinematography. Before coming to the United States, he worked as a video editor for French TV station TF1 and as a camera operator for the French Army’s Cinematographic Services. Once in the US, he graduated from Columbia College in 1985 with a B.A. in Motion Pictures and spent the next 13 years as a camera assistant for such renowned cinematographers as Marc Reshovsky, Harris Savides, Daniel Pearl and his original inspiration Michael Chapman.After camera assisting for director Michel Gondry, Pierre was awarded his first job as a cinematographer on Gondry’s now classic Foo Fighters video “Everlong.” Since then, Pierre has shot over 500 commercials and music videos, perfecting his style with some of the top directors in the industry: Matthew Rolston, Traktor, Baker Smith, Mikon van Gastel, Tom Kuntz, Paul Hunter, David LaChapelle, Jim Sonzero, Arni & Kinski, Len Wiseman and Jaume. Some of the artists Pierre has had the pleasure of photographing are Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, A Perfect Circle, Beyonce, Moby, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Beck, and Jay-Z.When not circling the globe with his camera Pierre spends his life between a small island in British Columbia and Los Angeles California.
