Nicolas Bary, a young French director, producer and screenwriter began directing short films in High School with friends and cousins. Studying in ESRA (French Film school), he decided to quit school to join the crew of Olivier Dahan’s Tom Thumb (2001). He then started working as a production assistant, assistant director and B-Unit cameraman on a serie of feature films: The Promised Life (2002) by Olivier Dahan; Not on the lips (2003) by Alain Resnais; My Children Are Different (2003) by Denis Dercourt ; Renegade (2004) by Jan Kounen ; The First Time I Turned Twenty (2004) by Lorraine Levy ; Alive (2004) by Frédéric Berthe ; Holy Lola (2004) by Bertrand Tavernier ; Narco (2004) by Tristan Aurouet and Gilles Lellouche ; Da Vinci Code (2006) by Ron Howard.
Alongside, he produced his first two short films : Fragile (2003) and Before (2004), the latter being Trouble at Timpetill’s prologue film.
In 2004, he met Thomas Langmann and Dimitri Rassam, who produced his third short movie : Judas (2005) with Jean-Pierre Cassel, Delphine Serina and Romain Rondeau. He started directing Trouble at Timpetill (produced by Dimitri Rassam), a project whose development had been initiated several years before. The film was released in 2008.
Nicolas directed several commercials for Total, Galaxy, Tabasco, Kinder, GRDF and Ooredoo and for the 2018 Olympic Games of Annecy, along with a couple of music videos: Emilie Satt (2009), Pamela Hute (2011), Nadeah (2014), Vianney (2014).
After Trouble at Timpetill, he shot a film adaptation of Daniel Pennac’s novel, Au Bonheur des Ogres (The Scapegoat) with Bérénice Bejo, Raphaël Personnaz and Emir Kusturica, the film was released in 2013. Nicolas directed his third film Le Petit Spirou (Little Spirou) which came out in September 2017.
Aside, Nicolas founded, in November 2008, a production company: The Partners. Some of their recent works include Les Bons Tuyaux (a short film by Olivier Riffard), The Mirror (a short film by Sébastien Rossignol), Eve (a short film by Eric Gandois). The company produces TV shows pilots as well, such as Clinic (adapted from a comic show) and Maestro (in the world of classical music). When you Cry Wolf by Nicolas Duval is the next feature film to be produce.
With his company TimpelPictures, Nicolas is developing his next projects: Increase, an anticipation drama, The Sumo, a feature film based in Japan and Soda, an adaptation from the famous comics books. Lastly, the company is also developing a comic book with Dupuis, The Dunces, two projects in Virtual Reality and producing the next feature film of Mathias Malzieu, A Mermaid in Paris.
