OK, we hate to name drop, but in the case of Michael Sugrue it’s sort of hard not to. Guinness, Visa, Nike, and Audi are just some of the clients Michael has worked with since he began directing in 2011. Michael’s contemporary and intimate style of filmmaking combines a visceral, documentary look with a highly polished cinematic feel. He looks at things in ways you’ve never seen before and you find yourself smiling and wondering, “How the hell did he get that shot?” Michael has a background in commercial still photography so it’s not surprising that all his shots are so beautifully composed. No matter if it’s kids playing a game in Africa or an Inuit woman fighting the sub-zero weather on a walk to the store, Michael’s work takes you there. His work has taken him there as well, shooting on five continents in six years. Not bad for a nice kid from Detroit. Michael recently moved from New York City to Northern California and is adjusting to the lack of pigeons. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin where he first fell in love with photography and film. While in college he was also on the swim team, so if you’re ever on a shoot with Michael, you can be confident that nobody is drowning on his watch.
