Michael Bernard's work as a director and cinematographer represents an interesting mix of cultures. A native Los Angeleno, Michael grew up on the Island, not Catalina, but England! Hence that unmistakable accent and a Londoner’s frame of reference. Getting an early start in the film industry working his way up the production ladder through the electric department and eventually becoming a Director of Photography. Of course, because starting one career is just a warm up, Michael formed a band, playing bass. Since every band needs a video, the two careers melded. Although steeped in commercials, it was music videos where Michael was able to stretch and reach his potential. Working with a wide range of artists, The Stones, Madonna, Missy Elliot, Tom Petty, covering a wide swath of genres and giving these videos a distinctly cinematic look.

Directing came as a natural progression after working with very supportive directors and clients. Because of Michael’s talent for shooting luxe products and beauty, top car makers, fashion and beauty lines came calling. This has led to him working with brands as a creative consultant. 

A love of photography and lighting guides Michael's work as a filmmaker. "I try to create an emotion visually, and capture that through composition," he says. "The best photographs are able to evoke an emotion through a single image, and that's what I strive for in my film work, that single frame telling a complete story.”
