SKILLS
I work primarily in Davinci Resolve and Filmlight Baselight, while dabbling in Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop and After Effects. I'm fluent in Mac, PC and English.
I can help with formats, files, transcoding, colour pipelines and how to get the best out of the material you have shot with, or which cameras you intend to shoot with.
I have worked on a range of projects from feature films to short films and advertising. Which covers workflows for small projects all the way up to VFX heavy ones.
I am slowly branching out into acting and voiceover work too, which is something I started as a teenager.
BACKGROUND
My name is Colin Foulkes. Iâm from Essex but speak RP, I am also not a âladâ, while at university it was noted that my banter skills were in negative figures.
My job title tends to vary from "Digital Film Colourist", "Grader", "Digital Colourist", "Film Grader", but I have also been known as "Colorist" by American friends and "Colourist" by English. Which can get a tad confusing at parties when people start asking me if I can do their hair.
I studied a BSc in Film Production Technology at Staffordshire University and began my filmmaking career at Pinewood Studios working for Technicolor making film dailies. I had the pleasure of working with Paul Ensby, who helped get me into the industry, and Peter Doyle who colour graded The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.
I then switched to a job with more sociable hours and worked in Fashion advertising at Spring Studios, where my role consisted of a mixture of Post Production Supervisor, Colourist Assistant and Data Guru. Essentially I just made things work and helped everything stay pretty. I have since been colour grading when at Grey London for Hogarth Worldwide and later at Ogilvy London for Hogarth Worldwide.
I also photograph on film, so I do have an understanding of how light works, so you know that I don't just "push buttons in the right order"
