Jake Scott grew up in London where he inherited the family passion for film, first playing an astronaut in Alien. He moved to Los Angeles over 20 years ago and it didn’t take long for his own name to become synonymous with some of the most revered commercials and music videos of recent years.
He recently directed Johnnie Walker’s multi award-winning “Gentlemen’s Wager” films for Anomaly, featuring Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini on the French Riviera where they play a charming game of cat and mouse over a yacht (I) and a classic car (II). He directed Mads Mikkelsen in the branded short “Le Fantôme” for Ford Edge. Creativity calls it a “sexy thriller,” and Fast Company calls Mikkelsen “intriguing as ever” in this “very watchable film.” Jake’s work includes a famous trilogy of Budweiser Clydesdale Super Bowl commercials—“Brotherhood” (2013), “Puppy Love” (2014) and “Lost Dog” (2015)—which won the coveted No. 1 spot on USA Today’s Super Bowl Ad Meter for three consecutive years. And he directed Nike’s EMMY Award-winning commercial “Move,” which is a story of human bodies in motion that flow together in one mesmerizing movement.
Jake gained early directorial prominence with REM’s “Everybody Hurts.” It won multiple MTV awards, a Grammy nomination and was inducted in the MVPA Hall of Fame in 2005. He directed other promos for top artists such as U2, No Doubt, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, The Strokes and The Rolling Stones, to note just a few.
More acclaimed commercial work includes three short films for HBO Voyeur, a groundbreaking multimedia campaign for BBDO NY. Jake directed films featuring interconnected characters and stories that were projected on a SoHo New York building. The Voyeur campaign raked up myriad awards, perhaps most notably a Cannes Grand Prix and Cyber Lion. His commercial credits extend to a long list of prestigious brands such as adidas, AmEx, Apple, Bacardi, Coca-Cola, Dick’s Sporting Goods, ESPN, Ford, Martini, Nike, Puma, Samsung, South Park, Subaru, Tulamore Dew, VW, and many others.
Jake made his feature film debut with Plunkett & Macleane, the historical action comedy with Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Miller and Liv Tyler. He also directed Welcome to the Rileys, the 2010 drama starring Kristen Stewart, the late James Gandolfini and Academy Award-winning actress Melissa Leo. He recently completed postproduction with Scott Free on the thriller The Burning Woman, with Sienna Miller, Amy Madigan, Aaron Paul and Christina Hendricks.
