Helming a Film or TV Commercial production is serious business. It does not simply require sheer effort, or mere talent. It is a combination of both. And a knowing, functioning experience of each and every aspect of the production pipeline.
Richard Ang is a director well known for his striking, emotional images and his effects proficiency. He specializes in visuals and stories that tug on heartstrings to tease its emotions and push the mind to boundless limits.
Richard has always been unabashedly vocal of his life experiences. He started off work early in Architecture and Fine Arts College by freelancing as a layout artist and animator, working on collateral material and Audio Visual Presentations, and doing music videos on the side as a hobby. The Music Videos allowed him to eventually win a scholarship to UCLA’s prestigious Film School, and go on to be awarded Best In Thesis, including Best Director and Best Visual Effects. While in film school, he worked at Discreet Logic in Santa Clara and had a stint as on set Visual Effects Artist on the 1999 film “Fight Club”. He worked closely with Director David Fincher and post production companies Digital Domain and Blue Sky, winning the Big Kahuna VFX artist of the year. He has since been on board as one of Guillermo Del Toro’s International Directors for his Film Production Company Merida, and is a member of The Directors Guild of America.
Upon coming back to the Philippine shores, Richard directed TV shows, special projects and plugs for the two major networks ABS-CBN, and GMA. Notably, he directed a series of award winning Station IDs and commercials. He has since been primarily directing local and foreign TV Commercials for several major clients, ad agencies and production houses.
