Director Daniel Kragh-Jacobsen hails from something of a filmic dynasty in his native Denmark and began making short films at 17 while working his way up in casting and as a director’s assistant. His work often exhibits a feel for the complexities of youth - narratives that capture small human moments, but seem to arrive there without pretense or effort. He recently completed the AFI Conservatory Program in Los Angeles and his graduation film, Turtle, is currently on the festival circuit.
Daniel is also well established in the music video and commercial world.
His video for the Danish band When Saints Go Machine’s Parix, won a 2012 UK Music Video Award for Best Rock/Indie Video. And his video for L.A. band Rhye’s The Fall won a 2013 Young Director Award for Best Music Video at the Cannes Lions. He has continued to take his craft to new heights on videos for Elton John and James Bay.
Since 2012 Daniel has been directing commercials for numerous domestic and international clients including Nike, Canada Goose, Ikea, Circle K, Ford, Danish Railways, Pull&Bear and Nestlé. His PSA Before It’s Too Late, an anti-teen suicide spot for the German nonprofit Friends for Life, earned him the 2012 First Prize European Test Commercial Young Director Award.
In 2016 he won a Gold Lion at the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival for this work on the Ford trilogy, a campaign that has continued to earn numerous awards. That same year, Daniel Kragh-Jacobsen was named “Talent of the Year” within the Danish Advertising industry.
