When this pandemic started, I decided to focus on my inner voice and capture my emotions into an art form. I was alone, no DP and no camera operator, just me, and some of my gears.
So I thought, how would I film myself and how to control the camera while I’m in front of it; I decided to use my old GoPro Fusion camera. It gave me the ability to control the footage and add motion to the camera afterwords. I placed the camera in front of a window to capture the interior and exterior at the same time. Then, I thought out the choreography and sat down on my beautiful sofa, pressed the record button on my phone and since then, I filmed myself doing the same choreography 70 times, over and over again.
I didn’t knew how often I should film it to capture every light condition, so I decided to film every 15 mins, which at a certain point can drive you crazy, doing the same movement that doesn’t make any sense from the first glance. It was quite challenging but I kept filming.
After a full 24 hour shoot of one man crew, I started to edit it and it took me almost a week to finish the main editing. Every frame was done manually, cut and tracked with the next frame and stitched by the movement of my character.
I wanted to give up several times and hated myself while I was shooting, but I knew that was an emotional rejection, and I need to finish my idea to show people how important it is to feel the power of now.
After I did the editing, my friend Ayan @aniports shared his new musical ideas with me. It sounded so nostalgic that it reminded me of the time when I was little, those moments when you don’t think about time and appreciate the pure feeling of the moment. I decided to use it in my video and it matched perfectly!
This is the first project that I’ve written, directed, acted, edited, and color graded by myself. I also decided to do it because of the limitations of our new reality. I turned 27 today and I want to wish everyone to live in the moment! Not in the past or the future but now, even if you are on lockdown at your place.
