Malaysians have always had a greater appreciation for cultures other than their own.
A country that’s always looking out, instead of looking in.
So how can an international brand like Samsung, remind Malaysians to celebrate who they are?
By asking them a question:
What makes Malaysia a wonderland?
Collaborating with Yuna, a Malaysian singer-songwriter who has found international success, we created Galaxy Wonderland, a way for us to dig deep into the country’s roots to rediscover its greatness.
For inspiration, we took people on a roadtrip across the country in search of forgotten gems on TV and YouTube.
Yuna posted weekly video logs, photos and doodles on her Facebook page, to launch the campaign and drive awareness and submissions, and called on them to remember the beauty that’s all around.
We then gave people a freehand to ‘Be Creative’ with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, a tool that lets them captures thoughts, ideas and moments with a stroke of its unique stylus.
Through stories, doodles, videos and pictures, Malaysians from across the country began to tell us what makes Malaysia – home.
These stories and ideas were used to create surreal, dreamlike landscapes which became the Galaxy Wonderland microsite.
Here, paddy fields sit on traditional Malaysian moon kites that soar across the sky, over “nasi lemak” mountain ranges, and a forest of giant hibiscus.
Through Galaxy Wonderland, people could rediscover Malaysia’s beauty once again.
Yuna then wrote the song ‘Home’ sparked by all the people’s thoughts, stories and ideas. A song to celebrate all that makes Malaysia, Malaysia.
The Galaxy Wonderland microsite landscape went on to inspire the set for the music video.
…A world where traditional children’s games are turned into ships that sail down mystical rivers…
…and giant “gasing” spinning tops hang like stalactites inside mysterious caves…

…A landscape that captures Malaysia, its essence, and all it has to offer.
And when the music video was launched, people could pause the video and explore any moment to see how their submissions personally inspired the music video.
A song, a journey, a project by Malaysians in celebration of being Malaysian.
The response, was amazing. Fans celebrated the new song online, and media picked up on the excitement as well.
