The shot of the SURE bottle was a sort of ‘painting with light’ experiment where I built this little setting with several light transmitting and refracting set pieces, shot several passes of this set-up onto the same strip of film.
I would shoot a pass just for the logo on the bottle, everything else was dark, single frame animation style.
I would backwind the film and shoot another pass where I would hold the shutter open for 4 seconds per frame and take a mini-maglight with a blue gel taped on and shake it about the back side of the product, creating a ‘painted on’ light pattern of a soft undulating blue side-light on the product.
Then backwind the film again to frame number 1 and this time drop in a heavy diffusion filter in front of the lens and shoot another pass where I would take a mini-maglight [without a color] and ‘paint light’ onto and thru the glass bottles, repeat-rinse-and re-apply. I think I shot somewhere around 8 passes.
It was pretty stuff!
Not sure how to sell it as a technique since you will not be able to show it to a client in real time until you process the film...maybe doing this with a digital still camera onto a hard-drive might be a better approach.
SO SORRY FOR THE CRAPPY VIDEO QUALITY! I am a DP, not an editor :-(
