Pratt & Whitney approached us to promote their Geared Turbofan engine and its industry leading architecture. After producing the visual content for their microsite we already had a large amount of the modelled parts and accurate textures, which we looked to conceptualise into a darker, more abstract film.
Using our growing knowledge of how the engine's individual parts come together, we looked to convey a chronological sequence from tip to tail ending with a resolved GTF engine ready for take off.
We used a lot of MASH, an Autodesk Maya plug-in originally developed in-house here at Mainframe in this project to handle the large number of moving parts. It's hard to imagine how it would have been possible in Maya without it!
