Agelicious - The First Buzzword Of Reiwa Era.
Zespri International Japan launched a new catchy campaign starting from the well-known song 'Dragostea Din Tei' - also informally known as "Ma Ya Hi". The video commercial featured the new 'agelicious' word, a combination of the English "delicious" and the Japanese slang ageru アゲる literally "lifting up" (your mood), to get everyone motivated to sample their kiwifruits dancing skills, also called the 'ageliciousdance' and put together a music video.
The slang ageru アゲる by itself can still be found today in 'ageage' - a term born out of DJ culture referring to a state of high energy or high spirits in the early 2000s. Combined with the song choice, Zespri was trying to tap into the current mood of Heisei nostalgia in Japan as it transitioned into the Reiwa Era.

The video reached 5 million views in just a couple days, and it recruited singing, dancing, eating, shooting samples from the general public, advertising them as a new way of doing a part-time job, but being paid in kiwi fruits. All part of a campaign to finish a video commercial with the aid and involvement of the public. The campaign finished on June 25th, 2019.
