After successfully delivering a variety of elements for the previous Deutsche Telekom Commercial we were invited to work on the Sky+ commercial that features players from Bayern Munich FC. Our role as technical design directors meant we were responsible for visual aesthetic, technical development and overseeing implementation of all graphic sequences in the film.
Brief
To create dynamic and unique motion-sensitive 3D graphic sequences that would track the players and footballs every movements. As with the wider campaign all elements were to be generated with a high degree of technical execution, to then be integrated into the live action material that forms the basis of all films.
Approach
We spent a healthy portion of time at the front end of the project on r&d. During this process we developed an animation style and unique aesthetic, which was applied to the tracked movements of the players.
The result is that their physical actions drive the animations on virtual LED screens in the studio behind them, showing stylised graphic representations of their real life movements. As you can see from the work here, the r&d produced a higher level of visual detail than was eventually chosen to be implemented into the final film. But regardless of your personal taste, it was a fun and rewarding project to work on that had many technical challenges. Kind of just how we like them really.
