Digital Kitchen helped LAX bring magic back to the travel experience through ambient narratives that unfold on massive displays in the new Bradley West International Terminal. The Portraits of a City were some of the most significant pieces of content created for the space. Each story takes viewers to a different destination, uncovering the strange experiences that are better known by locals than guidebooks. From a Thai exercise class at dawn, to a butcher shop in Barcelona, or young BMX bikers gathering under a bridge in Seoul, we found the genuine moments that make the world worth traveling.
The results are a mix of sculpture and film. Each story paints the walls of LAX with foreign landscapes, using multi-paneled displays to let several scenes play out at once in non-linear form. In this way we created dream-like experiences that more effectively capture the magic and memory of world travel.
