‘Hireth’ is an ongoing exploration of the severe distortion nostalgia plays on identity built entirely within the game engine ‘Unity’.
Set within my coastal home town of Perranporth, Cornwall, the project began life as an attempt at creating a playable exploration narrative video game that would explore the themes of loss and renewal, evolving slowly over time into a memory museum, a desolate archive I infrequently revisit and slowly populate when home, comfort and familiarity is out of reach.
The monoliths within the landscape are populated with home footage dating back to my first interaction with a video camera in 1996 through to personal phone footage in 2019. These Monoliths serve as portals to the further narrative and playable expansions within the 'Hireth' universe.

Excited to announce I will be exhibiting an excerpt from ‘Hireth’ at : Foreign Field - Milchhof Pavilion, Berlin milchhof-berlin.de/ opening Saturday 9th March 7-9pm. Closing Sunday 31st March. “As the path to Brexit proves to be increasingly damaging and unpopular in the UK, artist Colin Booth and film makers Jake Scott and Alex Turvey look at the way in which real and imagined borders impact on our personal history and our relationship with the unfolding present. The text, installation and moving image work is dedicated to European friends and colleagues.” #MilchhofPavilion #berlin
