“This was one of those perfect moments where things just clicked. My friend Petr showed me a little clip of running water tap and ever since then I wanted to recreate the shot and turn it into a music video. Couple of months later, I got in touch with London label Erased Tapes and they pointed me to a new album of Lubomyr Melnyk, Ukrainian composer and pianist, called Rivers And Streams.
I have been a big fan of his work so when I put the footage against his music, it felt like an ideal match. Lubomyr further elaborates on his technique of continuous piano, where music scores are replaced by very fluid stream of notes. Couple of retakes and tries later, I captured footage that felt just right. As his music works with layering and repetition I wanted to follow that and use only one motiv, seeing where I can take it. The music video eventually peaks into digital crescendo – it felt like all the beautiful natural shapes needed some counterbalance. As Lubomyr’s tracks are usually around 15 minutes long and only slowly change over time, the music video tries to retain some of its contemplative character.”
