For the final season of The Americans, we joined forces with the team at Lair to craft a teaser hinting at a potential conclusion for the show. In the promo, we see Elizabeth and Philip's various spy documents, passports, photos, all burning as they fall to the ground. Are they giving it all up and defecting, or are they going to flee and destroy all evidence?
The piece culminates, in classic Americans fashion, with a fiery hammer & sickle igniting amongst the pile of scorched passports. Its helping to set a melancholic tone for the final season, we hear a shot background dialogue between Elizabeth and Philip set against a somber track -- this really is coming to an end.
Based on an initial concept from Lair with a burning passport page, my team worked to build out the concept of this promo into the current narrative arc – starting with the intro shot of Elizabeth's face looking like its bubbling and melting, take us through a series of various falling passports, and culminating with the conclusion of a pile of burnt documents igniting into the hammer and sickle. We then partnered with The Joelsons to shoot it, and my team partnered up with Lair for post-production and compositing.
