KAMUY IS "AN EXPERIENCE".
The fundamental concept of KAMUY is
to give the audience the experience of diverse energies in the world through sensory exposures. The film pursues an imaginative creation of what the fetus experiences inside the mother’s womb.
The experience starts by descending a spiral staircase with a red installation which evokes the DNA structure. At the bottom is a painting by artist Akiyoshi Mishima inspired by the theme of Kamuy. Through a narrow passage, you enter a dark room with 20 small elliptical shaped beds. As if re-entering the womb, you lie, curling up like a fetus and view the film projected on the screen above. The complete structure from the sound system to the projection method were specifically designed to generate unique audiovisual sensations and attract audiences looking for an unparalleled experience.
With Kamuy, the experience and the film were developed simultaneously,
each process influencing the other, in order to create a synergy between viewing and experiencing.
