British rapper Oscar #worldpeace’s latest single is “That’s Alright,” out now via the label Mike Skinner (of The Streets) runs. On the track, Oscar gets an assist from producer Ragz Originale, who was behind the boards for “Shutdown,” “Konnichiwa,” and “Text Me Back” from Skepta’s Konnichiwa album.
Ragz gets on the mic for the hook and the two artists collaborated on the production to cook up the bouncy but hard-hitting beat. “The track came about spontaneously,” Oscar explains. “I made half the beat and had the second verse all done on the same day and felt I needed to get this expression out, so I phoned Ragz and told him whatever he was doing I was coming to the studio. That’s when he added that sick bass melody that you hear now and wrote the hook.”
The visual, which was directed by Taz Tron Delix, has many of the elements of a traditional grime video, but the editing gives it a lo-fi charm and makes it stand out from the norm. Look out for Oscar #worldpeace this year.
