Let's see... SUPERMAN RETURNS is from 2006. I was part of the FX team, using Houdini.
We open to the big ice chunk shot. I had to look dev the ice flow, create snow, light and render the vehicles and landscale, and animate the camera move. It was a fun, one-off...
Next is a series of ocean shots. A lot of this was just pushing data through the pipeline. The ocean and spires and splashing was kind of canned. So mainly things like timing and placement, and lighting and rendering were asked of us. I also did look dev for the helicopter blade.
The last big effort was the desert island shot. The first couple of seconds are all live action, but once we pull back to reveal anything beyond the actors, it's all CG. Island trees and shadows are all cg, the vegetation and ocean beyond. The is also a lot of compositing magic to bring it all together.
That's about all I remember.
