Living from the forest and for the forest. Living with fire and using fire. Wildfire as fire and the use of fire as a tool to fight it, i.e., suppression fire. The mastery of this tool is an ancient art that has accompanied the experience, knowledge, and wisdom of the forest services in Portugal throughout 100 years of history. A tool inherently linked up with life stories of people who cared, protected, preserved and guarded the forest, with a strong devotion. People who worked all over the year in the forest, planted, cleaned, built tracks and fought fires using mainly hand tools and suppression fire to rage across fire. Masters, Foresters and Fire Brigades that were working on the grounds of knowledge acquired through practice. Lives and memories of strong determination whose commitment was to defend their most precious asset: the forest.
