"The wine we make is something we're emotionally attached to," says Ian McKenzie, who owns Blackjack Wines with his good mate Ken Pollock. The pair combines traditional techniques with Mother Nature's whims at their vineyard in the beautiful Harcourt Valley. The area is equally famous for its apple orchards. Simon Frost, of The Little Red Apple, speaks of the pure taste of the valley, captured in his cider, sparkling apple juice and vinegar.
In nearby historic Maldon Cherry's Ice Creamery is kept busy by the sweet tooths year-round. Ice cream maker Ian French uses local produce where possible; he says a fair chunk of the region's boysenberry crop ends up in his ice cream -- it's one of around 60 flavours he's perfected.
