Some tests with the BMPCC filmed last night and this morning. (2013-10-04)
First impressions love the size of camera and the look of the material I get out of the camera.
Lots of stuff to work with in Resolve when shooting ProResHQ Film.
Highlights seem to pop very fast not so nice. But when shooting at night you can pull up a lot of detail from underexposed shoots. I hope the highlights issue will get better when one can use RAW files.
Shoots that are similar right next to each other at 1min 25 sec are ASA 800 and ASA 1600. Looks like you can just keep everything in ASA 800 because you can pull it up to look as bright as the ASA 1600 anyway. But 1600 in camera looks very nice to.
Not sure if I have the blooming highlights problem or not. Can anybody see if I should get this camera recalibrated? Shoots in the end of the film are overexposed. I hate to send the camera back after just receiving it.
Lots of detail gets lost when uploading it to the web and using H.254 compression.
It looks a lot better in ProRes.
I had no ND filter so lots of F stop 22 on the day shoots :)
Lenses I used:
Panasonic 14-140 mm 4-5.8
Panasonic 7-14 mm 4.0
Panasonic 14 mm 2.5
Olympus 17 mm 2.8
CCTV 25 mm 1.4
Thinking of getting the Speedboster later when they release it for Canon and a Sigma AF 18-35/1,8 DC HSM A.
Graded in Davinci Resolve 10 beta 2
OFX plugin Filmconvert beta
Would love to use Neat video de noiser plugin I hope they will make it work for Resolve.
I would also love if Blackmagic would assign buttons for ASA and white balance change. The left, right button and next clip buttons are free for that when you are shooting :)
