Mark Hillman attended the full time fiction direction course at the National Film & Television School. Following graduation in 1997 his final year film was shown at the Edinburgh Film Festival and at the National Film Theatre in London. The same summer he started work at the BBC and directed factual pieces for BBC2 and a documentary, Media Studies: a Survivors Guide.
Mark came to Singapore to join his wife in late 1999. He worked at MTV as a trusted freelance director for the next nine years collecting seven Promax Asia Gold Awards, two silver and one Gold International for his branding, TVC and promotional work. In 2004 he was co-creative director rebranding MTV Asia On Air. His subsequent work for the channel has been show on MTV in UK (The Albert & Nancy Experience) and at Siggraph (Codehunters).
More recently he has directed television commercials for diverse brands such as Shokubutsu, Sony, Singtel and Starhub. He has also worked on reality TV formats such as MTV The Games and Angels Gate.
