The BT Digital Media Awards returned to London’s iconic venue, the Camden Roundhouse on 29 September 2011, and Loco, once again, brought their creative talents to the Ballistic Events production team. The BT DMAs celebrate the achievements of chart-topping and emerging bands and solo artistes, digital spaces to buy and discover music, radio shows and podcasts, events, promotions, gadgets, websites, and apps. Top industry insiders selected many of the winners while other categories were open for public voting.
As well as editing together the nominations packages for each of the 20 categories, Loco’s Miland Suman and Lee Bamsey along with Alice Lindars and Jay Merry of Reality helped to design the visual identity of the awards show including the backdrops to the live performances. Miland and the team created and animated an amazing display of projection mapping and LED graphics for Reality’s fantastic stage design. Taking cues from the BTDMA official website, the awards packages featured the kaleidoscopic shards of colour and the brick wall background which was emblematic of the venue.
Rufus Hound and Caroline Flack presented the awards from the top of a bespoke staircase, which served as a canvas for spectacular projection mapping. Loco created a grand red carpet which rolled (virtually) down the stairs, setting the tone for the celeb-filled occasion while projected sparkles, colourful shapes and other dazzling effects added to the excitement of winners collecting their awards.
Floating video cubes formed the backdrop for live performances by Rizzle Kicks, Marina & The Diamonds, Nicola Roberts (of Girls Aloud), Maverick Sabre, Charlie Simpson and Ed Sheeran. Loco’s motion graphics designers created animations for the LED blocks which playfully jumped from screen to screen and gave the illusion of 3D projections.
Events producer, Louise Stevens described the event as a wonderful success, “Everything ran like clockwork, sounded great and looked fantastic. As always, it was an absolute pleasure working with you all, and I can't thank you enough for all your efforts.”
