Mill NY ECD Rama Allen and Colorist Mikey Rossiter took to the 2016 SXSW stage with Neuroscientist Bevil Conway for '1+2 = Blue: The Science of Color In Film.' Together the Director, Colorist and Scientist joined forces to demonstrate the effect of color on the human brain, and how filmmakers use color to alter our perception, emotion, and cognition. While Colourist Mikey Rossiter offered a glimpse into his creative process by grading a film live on stage, a test subject was hooked up to EEG, heart rate and galvanic skin response sensors to collect biometric data based on the subject’s emotional response to various color stimuli. The data was visualized by the Mood Bling, a Mill LAB biometric art experiment that generates realtime motion sculptures in response to a user’s emotional state.
