Engineering UK is a government body which promotes STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) education and certification. Big Bang is a hand on learning event where young people can learn why STEM subjects are so important and the type of careers it can lead into.
Our brief was to make the main conference video which was approximately five minutes featuring a range of vox pox style interviews from the various delegates at the event. This included high profile business leaders, stake-holders and government ministers. Among those interviewed included was Vince Cable Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.
We only had a short window to work with demonstrating that we can capture video and audio under significant time constraints. The footage was edited that day on site and then used for social media promotion the very next day. We create multiple pieces of content including short form videos, which could be tweeted out as well as vox pox interviews which were shown on the YouTube the next day.
We also had to be sure to cover significant moments within the various sessions that were taking place that day. We were careful to cover these key moments as well as being able to roam around and capture ad hoc highlights. To achieve this we were given a time table of events that we needed to capture.
Finally it was important to capture the fun and excitement of the children’s reactions to the hands on experience. The end result was a video which both expressed the key messages and the fun of the event.
