ZSPACE created 3 epic large-format animations for SAMSUNG’s spectacular new Experience Store in Melbourne with beautiful photo real animation inspired by the real world. Each animation plays across a vast wall of 24 HD Samsung screens creating a fluid, living gateway into the store. The photo real animations, inspired by the natural world, feature the iconic Southern Cross, an underwater reef shelf and rolling clouds seen at 35 thousand feet. Working around the clock with the Agency team at Cheil Australia, ZSPACE delivered the 3 animations in just 2 weeks to meet the store’s launch date. The total size of each animation was nearly 30,000 pixels wide and 5,500 pixels high, and once installed in the store measured about 15 meters from one end to the other, spanning the entire width of the Samsung store front. It was a challenge to visualise the overall composition, whilst ensuring quality over the fine detail. Aside from the extremely tight turnaround, the project presented a huge set of technical demands. Mike Thomson, head of 3D at ZSPACE explains “Creating the Samsung animations was a massive technical undertaking. The 24 high definition screens required huge computational resources. The AfterEffects renderfarm consisted of over 700 cpu cores and more than 4500 megabytes of ram, which enabled us to turn around each 30 second animation in 36 hours. We utilised both our in-house and custom built cloud render farm, linked by our high-speed internet connection to deliver the final 64,800 HD frames.
