Good Hope FM wanted to remind listeners of one of the most important days in South Africa's history, 16 June 1976, which represented the sacrifice of South Africa's youth towards the nation’s struggle for freedom.
We chose to use this commercial as a reminder that the Struggle should never be forgotten, nor should the rights achieved be taken for granted and why today “it’s all good" (the station’s pay-off line).
The commercial depicted an animated South African youth rapping with lyrics representing the difference in the community as it was during the struggle and how is it now. Various black and white frames images from the past transitioned into colour as the frame transformed into the lively and free scenes that youths now enjoy.
The end result was a highly emotional television spot that engaged the audience, and reminded them of the times when youth's lives were spent fighting, and how their lives have become better since freedom.
