Close to the heart of downtown Seoul, you’ll find Chongdong Theatre. Since starting its life in 1995 as a faithful restoration of Wongaksa—Korea’s first modern theatre—Chongdong Theatre has established itself as a powerful center for the performing arts.
The venue is small, seating only 300 people, but remains the leader in traditional Korean plays. During your Seoul sightseeing, Chongdong Theatre is a must-do stop if you have any interest at all in authentic Korean music or dance.
Dramatic visual and lighting effects accompany each performance, bringing much of the ancient art to life for a modern crowd. Be warned: your Chongdong Theatre tour may result in you being called onstage to participate!
