For better appearance of the city, many shops in Beijing hutong were remolded and left with only a small window to the streets. A group of foreign designers came over and hang around on a “San Lun Che” in hutong. They made signs for hutong shops on site, bun shops, barbershops, grocery stores... Shops with their fun signs stood out right away.
