In the history of Chinese film, there is a forgotten genius. Her name is Esther Eng, or Ng Kam-ha. As a third-generation Chinese American, she was born in San Francisco, but she spoke Cantonese and wrote Chinese characters. She was beautiful as a woman, but she dressed like a man from head to toe. She never received professional training in filmmaking, but taught herself by watching over 1,000 films in the theatre she worked part-time for. She later became a director who achieved many firsts.
