Description:
This is the model of real New York City which includes all the architectures in the Manhattan Island, such as Empire State Building, Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge, Chrysler Building, World Trade Center, Freedom Tower, the Statue of Liberty and so on. The location, altitude and the shape of every model were precisely made by myself.
I love New York City for the beautiful and unique skyscrapers, diverse culture and flourishing economic during past century even though I have never been there. So much amazing things were there, such as the biggest park in city-Central Park, booming architecture industry, stock exchange and so on. So with the passion of loving NYC, I had collected a huge amount of images in my mind, wanted to model it and fantasize it in a virtual world with the help of the 3Dmax software.
Procedure:
The first step and the longest period were to collect the documentation which was the most difficult thing. I searched every picture on google from page one to the end and found all CAD prints I could found. The whole preparation took me almost two and a half months. The second step was to rebuild each architecture under the references of CAD prints, blue prints, google tool and so on, which I spent more than two months to model it in 3D max. Then the third step was to size the buildings and place them at the right place. In the mean time I checked whole island with real pictures. Finally were rendering and animation composing work lasted a week. In additioin, two nice sounds were specially chosen and expressed my feeling while making this great work. So all in all it is work of my soul and passion.
Due to my weak computer, I have to give up some details. Most of them are just general shape with a color, reflection, and bump maps. However those well-known architectures were still really detailed with windows and rooms.
