SOUNDING LIGHT by CHENG Tsung-lung

SOUNDING LIGHT is the latest work from CHENG Tsung-lung, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre’s new Artistic Director since 2020. CHENG’s distinct work is known for combining the dynamics of Taiwanese street life, temple sounds, shaman movements with western-trained body. In SOUNDING LIGHT, CHENG observes natural surroundings and its inhabitants, simulating insectile movements and sounds from the environment. As motions of sunlight sweep across the minimalistic stage, dancers recreate bodily imageries hinting at extraterrestrial beings, while a natural soundscape manifests in your ears by their imitation of earthly creatures and forces of nature. CHENG’s marked interest in nature kindles an inquisitive balance to preserving the environment.
