I was invited to direct both sequences for Sky Creative, working from an open brief sold in as a large scale, vibrant mural of Ashes history. Identifying an artist whose work provided a sense of motion and dynamism was one of the first tasks and Florian offered a great solution with his expressive and rich style. The live action element was a key aspect to ground both films in reality, allowing Coffee & TV to combine practical paint with VFX. Our first delivery meant injecting movement and beauty into stills for the Women’s title, the following challenge involved applying Florian’s style to moving footage for The Men’s, which came with varying levels of source quality. Working closely with the Motion Design team, we built basic, flowing edits to inject energy and pace, before working into each scene to build layers of movement, typography, paint elements and colour, taking the viewer on a chronological journey through a number of The Ashes greatest moments.
