Imagine dreaming of going to the Olympics for as long as you can remember. Now imagine that for most of your sporting life you can’t because you are a woman?
Well that’s exactly the situation Kate Allenby MBE faced.
Even though the Modern Pentathlon was created by the founder of the Olympics, it was for men only. That was until she and others won their right for inclusion at Sydney 2000 - some 88 years after the first male competition.
Bill James, Chairman of British Triathlon and Chair of ENGINE Transformation, spoke to Kate about her journey to Sydney and the challenges she faced. They discussed what's changed for women in sport over the years as well as what hasn't and they looked at what lessons we can learn and take back into our own organisations.
We've come a long way in 20 years, but as Kate says, there's still a long way to go.
