This project was shot within 3 sporadic days all across the St. Louis Metropolitan area. Nature was a focal point of this project and we set out to shoot the basic elements of nature: Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. The Voice Over was a poem created by the director called, Our Mother, Tender and Cruel.
We shot the majority of the project on the Canon c500 at 23.976fps in 1920x1080p at 2.35.1 aspect ratio. All the slow motion shots were on the URSA Mini 4.6k at 120fps in 1920x1080p at 2.35:1 aspect ratio. As for the glass, the vast majority of the film was shot with the beautiful Xeen Cine Primes 24mm, 50mm, and 85mm with the exception of one zoom shot on the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L (min 2:42 - 2:44).
In the middle of the film there is a close up of a hand spinning around in the rain...for this, we used a Canon 60D with the Xeen 24mm at about 10" of focus and spun the camera around with the actors hand up against the barrel of the lens. I loved the look, sharpness, and fall off you get with this beautiful glass! And for all the flared out shots, I really loved seeing what the outer coating on each Xeen lens does to direct lights hitting the glass.
All in all, this was a passion project with friends and family exploring State and County Parks here in St. Louis Missouri.
