Working with Commonwealth McCann and Chevrolet, I was tasked with directing the launch video for the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV. For me this was revealing to the world that the Bolt is more than a car, it’s a sanctuary of innovation and design, an oasis of performance and safety. Character and Performance; All stories start with a good character, telling about their personality and showing off their traits. Simply because our talent had four light weight aluminum wheels instead of two stoic legs didn’t mean it was any less capable of creating a commanding performance.
The entire team went into this with the mantra that our CG reveal video will be 1 to 1 for live action. Achieving this with using real world textures, photographic references and plausible environments. It’s not just VFX, it’s a story; a story that elevates this pivotal moment for Chevrolet to be more than a series of ubiquitous vehicle shots. It’s a narrative that connects creatively, what’s unique about Bolt EV with its performance and messaging, not simply a series of vignettes.
