Adam Bolt and I co-directed this animated video for Katy Perry. My mother, Māhealani Uchiyama, is a Kumu Hula and I grew up watching her teach Hula and Tahitian Ori. This video was an opportunity to bring those experiences into a film. We collaborated with Kumu Hula Patrick Makuakāne, who created the original choreography and chanting in the piece.
