Exploring digital creativity and identity, community and connections, No Direct Flight is a three-film series that explores how a lineage of aesthetics has been handed down and shared between filmmakers of the African diaspora.
Featuring visionary work by emerging directors Curtis Essel (UK), Jabu Nadia Newman (SA) and Justice Nnanna (USA), the series celebrates the internet as a place of inspiration, collaboration, and connection—a tool that has facilitated the explosion of a new aesthetic and repositioned African diaspora filmmakers as global tastemakers.
To bring the program's concept of interconnectivity into practice, each director was briefed to work with a new, online collaborator in another continent.. The result is an extraordinary virtual journey taking the audience back to the future of the black aesthetic.
