Director statement
This Animation is to visualize William Kentridge’s words combined with his style and mine. I got obsessed with his technique which is the remnant of successive stages remains on the paper to provide a metaphor concept. From his artworks and lectures, I realized the construction of the meaning of the different artworks is a product of physical activities. When the creating process happens, the studio itself becomes the separated space. The main idea is to present how the physical activities impulse the creating process and how the construction process proceeds from uncertainty to certainty. In the film, William Kentridge works with different types of equipment and materials inside the studio while walking circling. The transformation that a skull turns into the William Kentridge’s Face represents the idea that Innovation doesn’t go from the “one” to the “N” factorial, it creates something from nothing. The main tone of the film is black and white, but when it comes to the metaphor concept in my story, I use the colors to highlight the objects.
