Biography
Yiqing (Delsin) Huang is an animator who graduated from London College of Communication. With a minimalistic style, and abstract representations of stories, she loves exploring the connections between lines and simple shapes.
Director statement
For this project I was instructed by my client, the Verso Books, to choose one of the ten books that they suggested, and make three short video/GIFs that they can upload on social media and promote it. I first chose three books out of ten, then narrowed it down to one which is called “DISOBEY!” by Frédéric Gros. From the description, I learnt that the book is about disobeying the current society. The author explores the need and urgency of political obedience, social conformity etc. I extracted the most basic idea behind it, and put it as my main inspiration for the films.
I chose to present disobedience on screen by constructing something in order, perfectly aligned, then create an abnormality within this perfect construction. I’ve also got the idea of the ants from the cover of the book. Where ants is also well known by their obeying nature. So I though it’s interesting to make it into a film.
